Dynein Swings into Action
نویسندگان
چکیده
Motor proteins, such as dynein, use chemical energy from ATP hydrolysis to move along the cytoskeleton. Roberts et al. (2009) now describe the arrangement of subdomains in the motor domain of dynein and propose a model for how these regions function together in force generation.

The effect of endurance training on dynein motor protein expression in Wistar male rats sciatic nerves with diabetic neuropathy
Introduction: Most neurodegenerative diseases are associated with the disruption of axonal transport and this might also be related to diabetes-associated disorders affecting the nervous system. Cytoplasmic dynein is a very important motor driving the movement of a wide range of cargoes toward the minus ends of microtubules. The effects of endurance training on dynein motor protein expression i...
متن کاملAAA+ Ring and Linker Swing Mechanism in the Dynein Motor
Dynein ATPases power diverse microtubule-based motilities. Each dynein motor domain comprises a ring-like head containing six AAA+ modules and N- and C-terminal regions, together with a stalk that binds microtubules. How these subdomains are arranged and generate force remains poorly understood. Here, using electron microscopy and image processing of tagged and truncated Dictyostelium cytoplasm...

Background and Objective: Axonal transport is a vital process in nervous system. Impairment of motor proteins involved in axonal transport like dynein is a common factor in several neurodegenerative disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). However, no study found on abnormalities in axonal transport due to decreased physical activity and neuropathic pain. Materials and Methods:...
متن کاملBig steps toward understanding dynein
Dynein is a microtubule-based molecular motor that is involved in various biological functions, such as axonal transport, mitosis, and cilia/flagella movement. Although dynein was discovered 50 years ago, the progress of dynein research has been slow due to its large size and flexible structure. Recent progress in understanding the force-generating mechanism of dynein using x-ray crystallograph...
متن کاملTwo modes of microtubule sliding driven by cytoplasmic dynein.
Dynein is a huge multisubunit microtubule (MT)-based motor, whose motor domain resides in the heavy chain. The heavy chain comprises a ring of six AAA (ATPases associated with diverse cellular activities) modules with two slender protruding domains, the tail and stalk. It has been proposed that during the ATP hydrolysis cycle, this tail domain swings against the AAA ring as a lever arm to gener...
